We are introducing our first M.O.M Couple to our community. They both take mastering multitasking to a whole new level! As most of us M.O.Ms do, they too are managing a family of four (includes Max,3 and Blakesley, 1) with life and work.
Just a glimpse on what this M.O.M Couple is about before we chat in detail: Trista, a Wife, stay at home mom, Writer, Designer, ‘Dancing Star’, and budding Mompreneur. Ryan is a husband, father, Firefighter, Tri-Athlete, dabbles in Environmental Design, and Activist for First Descents.
Enough said… Let’s Meet Trista and Ryan Sutter!
M.O.M Katie ~ Thank you so much for inspiring us with your everyday multitasking. As a couple, do you find it hard to balance everything? Is life more hectic now or you have 3 years under your belt as parents, so it is easier today than as first-time parents with the balancing act?
Trista~ Wow. I really don't consider myself an inspiration, but it's nice to hear...thank you. :) Balance is definitely hard...probably the hardest part about being a parent. You want to make sure you have time to be a good wife, time to be a good friend, time to stay healthy, time to relax, and of course, time to be present in being a mother.
Bottomline...you just have to do your best and hopefully it will all work out. Hectic? You could say that...a million times over! I thought I was busy before I had kids, but not even close. It's all good though...I love the controlled chaos of our life. The experience of more than 3 years as a parent does help, but with an almost 2 year old thrown in the mix, most of the time the experience flies out the window and it's purely about time management.
M.O.M Katie ~ What is a typical day for the two of you? Do your busy schedules allow for weekly Date nights? or how do you get in ‘your’ time together?
Trista ~ Our typical day usually revolves around the kids. It's all about whatever they need at the moment and then whenever I can fit in work time at the computer or on the phone, I try. When they go down for a nap, I'm usually busy paying bills or doing work for My Vintage Baby, or answering interviews (like this one). Date nights are few and far between, but I'm trying to be better about arranging sitters in the new year. If we can't get date nights, then it's just about spending quality time together when they are asleep. :)
M.OM Katie ~ Trista, you have ventured into the Mompreneur community with a diaper bag (Trista Baby) early on and now you are designing with My Vintage Baby, what is your passion as an entrepreneur? Do you envision starting your own company? Or do you plan on continuing down the writing path?
Ryan, we love following your dedication as a Firefighter and bringing awareness to First Descents. Can you let everyone know more about your goals and what you are doing?
Trista ~ I honestly never thought of myself as a designer, except in the comfort of my own home, but I am LOVING it! I don't envision starting my own company as the people I work with at My Vintage Baby are wonderful and make my life easy. Besides...that would be WAY too much pressure! :) I would absolutely LOVE to write a children's book one day, but for now, my writing skills are solely on display on my Epic Mom's blog at http://www.buzz.snow.com/
Ryan: I was honored to be involved with the 10.10.10 challenge with First Descents last year and plan to continue to help raise awareness for their cause of helping young adults with cancer in the new year. As to what that plan is, you'll have to keep checking with http://www.firstdescents.org/.
M.O.M Katie ~ Since you have given hope to so many couples out there proving that ‘fairy tales do come true’, as busy partners & parents, what is one life lesson or one rule of life you would encourage people to live or follow to have success as a M.O.M Couple?
Trista~ I think it's all about enjoying the ride and being grateful. Not every day is going to be the best, or even remotely good, but we should all be grateful for the little things and know that there is always hope for a better life.
Lot’s more on the horizon for Trista & Ryan. Make sure to follow and to continue to be inspired by them on twitter @TristaSutter & @RyanSutter.
February 14th- keep an eye out on http://www.myvintagebaby.com/ - Trista's new line is due to arrive!!
