If you ever wondered how to balance it all…work, family, life… you haven’t met Britt Michaelian then. She truly defines being a M.O.M and has mastered it with ease & happiness. Certifying her M.O.M status just turn to her twitter bio (@mamabritt): “I'm a mom of 3 girls, radio host, artist, author, speaker, entrepreneur & coach who loves strategy, systems & helping people succeed in business & life”.
Britt empowers entrepreneurs to live their life purpose not just by becoming entrepreneurs, but by becoming living, breathing role models for their children. She devotes her time as the Work Smart Mompreneur expert. As The Work Smart Mompreneurs Blog states, it is for moms who are ready to truly live every moment in happiness, fulfillment and confidence.
A little Background on Britt
Britt Michaelian, M.A. is a passionate, serial entrepreneur dedicated to helping parents keep their families happy and healthy as they pursue their own personal ambitions. With a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy and as the Founder of San Francisco based Responsible Family Company, Britt is well positioned to lead families into a new way of living in abundance.
In 2002, while working towards her Masters degrees, Britt started her first business as an exhibiting artist. As her artwork gained recognition, so did her desire to help parents to prevent the accidents that brought children to the hospital where Britt worked. She joined forces with emergency room physician, Dr. Wayne Warrington and created her first product, the award winning video Care for Kids: The Essential Guide to Preparing Caregivers.
Since then, Britt has appeared in local, national and international media. She has spoken at international conferences and lead family based workshops designed to keep families safe, happy and healthy.
After her first book, Secrets of the Safety Goddess: A Modern Safety Guide for Busy Parents became a bestseller on Amazon.com, Britt realized that while she had achieved a significant level of success, this achievement was in an area that she felt was not her life purpose.
Consequently, Britt created a systematized process that allowed her to shift Responsible Family Company into a business that was in alignment with her personal and family goals. As a result of her success in using this system, Britt is now coaching moms to go through the same growth process of exploring values, goals and experiences to build businesses around their natural gifts, talents and passions so that they can live their life purpose.
Now that we know who Britt is, let’s chat with this M.O.M and gain some more inspiration
M.O.M Katie ~ Thanks for chatting with our mutual community of M.O.Ms. So, what is the most common concern or question you get asked that most mompreneurs seem to be struggling with?
M.O.M Britt ~Thank you for having me! It's an honor and a pleasure to work with other moms. As far as the most common concern I see in the clients I work with, and even with my collegues, I would have to say that many of us are struggling with feeling overwhelmed. Moms want to know the work they are doing is not only going to make them money, but is also meaningful to them. They want to make sure they're not wasting their time or are somehow on the wrong track. So, I help moms hone in on what they REALLY want to be doing and help them create a plan around that, so that every step they take is specifically designed to move them closer to their end goal or ultimate vision. Not every mom wants to build a huge empire, in fact I think most moms just want to do something they love that also allows them to spend time with their families.
M.O.M Katie ~ For you, did the balancing act come natural with your background or did you have to work at mastering it? What’s your best advice to newly launched ‘m.o.mpreneurs’?
M.O.M Britt ~ No, the balancing act did not come naturally, although a lot of people around me have always asked how it is so "easy" for me. I am a fairly organized person and I love to learn and grow. The idea of balance is somewhat elusive because the reality is that, no matter how hard we try, there will always be some area that needs our attention more than another. So, as moms, this means we need to be very good listeners and, as entrepreneurs, this means we need to create systems that allow us to track all areas of our businesses. I think more than achieving balance, the key is to remain flexible. Flexible and persistent.
M.O.M Katie ~ What can our M.O.Ms expect from being a part of The Work Smart Mompreneurs? What type of products and programs do you offer?
M.O.M Britt ~ Work Smart Mompreneurs is an evolving brand. I started out as a child safety expert and, after a few years and a lot of fun adventures, I realized that my training and strengths weren't being fully utilized, so I created Work Smart Mompreneurs based on my own values, strengths and goals. I call WSM an evolving brand because it grows with me. As I learn new things about business, life, motherhood and myself, I share them with my audience of moms so they can learn and grow with me. My business is not as much of a revenue driven business as much as it is my ideal lifestyle business. What this means is that I offer products that help moms start businesses. I also have group and private coaching programs that are designed to help moms build their own dream lifestyle businesses.
With the Big Picture Success Map, we go through a series of exercises to get a firm grasp of who you are and what you and your family want out of life. Then, we lay it all out on one page and create an action plan of daily, weekly, monthly, etc tasks and actions. By the end of this session, clients have a much greater level of clarity and confidence about themselves. Clients who want to achieve faster results through ongoing support can continue to work with me for as long as they would like in weekly phone coaching sessions, but since this is my ideal lifestyle business, I work with a limited number of private clients. I recently launched a group coaching program to provide another option for support and give my audience a community to support each other. It is called Work Smart Women and, for the month of January, membership is my gift. Simply opt in to my mailing list at http://worksmartmompreneurs.com for details or send me an email and I will send you a private invite.
M.O.M Katie ~ ok, I follow you on twitter and just LOVE all the inspiring quotes you tweet. What is your favorite quote and why?
M.O.M Britt ~ I am so glad you asked this question. Quotes are one of the quickest and easiest ways to get inspired! I believe that daily inspiration is essential to living a life you love, so tweeting and re-tweeting quotes is one way I like to inspire others regularly and often. Thanks for following me, btw! ;) Ok, my favorite quote... "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt
M.O.M Katie ~ Anything you want to add that is coming up or we can look out for? Thanks so much Britt. You truly are a M.O.M and inspire so many of us and will continue.
M.O.M Britt ~ 2011 is going to be a big year for me and for Work Smart Mompreneurs, so this is a loaded question! ;) But I definitely have some things at the top of the list. First of all, I was asked to speak at this amazing event created by Nada Jones called Ltd Expo aka: Live the Dream Expo. It is in Pasadena on January 13th and is going to be HUGE for women entrepreneurs! Nada's vision is to have this event at multiple locations throughout the US in the coming years, so I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of this first go around. The speakers and panelists are just phenomenal. Nada's goal is to get all of the best resources in one room for women entrepreneurs and, I can tell you, she has hit her mark and then some! For anyone near Southern California, this will be an event you won't want to miss. http://ltdexpo.com/
In terms of WSM, my team and I are working on some great stuff, but one thing I am super excited about is the guests we have lined up on the WSM Show at http://wsmshow.com/ I can't divulge the guests yet because dates may change, but if you want to learn from some moms who have run BIG businesses, sign up for the RSS feed or subscribe to the show on itunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-work-smart-mompreneurs/id396957572 Other exciting projects for this year include another book, an event in Northern California called Wealthilicious that Alicia Dunams and I are working on with some women entrepreneurs in Canada, a series of new videos, a partnership with a video syndication network and MORE!
More important than anything about me, I want to thank you so much for profiling me and for allowing me the chance to say hello to your audience. Hi Ladies! I want you all to know that you are very special and that being a mom entrepreneur is the role of ultimate creator. This story is not about me. It is about you. My role is as a guide for moms who are looking for some inspiration and accountability to live the life they dream of. What's your role? I'd love to hear from you on:
